1 Killed, 1 Injured in Head-On Crash on Laurel Bay Rd in Beaufort Co., SC

Beaufort County, SC (August 24, 2026) – On Sunday night, August 23, a head-on crash on Laurel Bay Road near the intersection with Shanklin Road left one driver killed and another injured, according to South Carolina State Police. 

State troopers said the wreck happened around 9:30 p.m. when a 2015 Nissan sedan traveling east on Laurel Bay Road struck a 2018 Ford sedan traveling west, head-on, near the Shanklin Road intersection.

The driver of the Nissan, the only person in the vehicle, died at the scene. The Beaufort County Coroner's Office later identified him as a 28-year-old man who died at approximately 9:34 p.m. His cause of death was ruled multiple blunt force injuries.

The driver of the Ford, also the only person in that vehicle, was taken by EMS for treatment. No additional information on the severity of their injuries has been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
