North Charleston, SC (September 12, 2026) – A 2-year-old girl was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Wednesday night, September 9, near Rivers Avenue and Eagle Drive in North Charleston.
According to the county coroner, the child died following the crash. Police later identified a 2020 Toyota Tacoma as the suspected vehicle involved.
Investigators located the address registered to the Toyota and spoke with the driver. Police said the driver reported hearing a bang while traveling through the area but continued without realizing what had happened.
The driver was arrested on charges including reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
The child's guardian was also arrested on a charge of unlawful conduct toward a child. Police said evidence available to detectives raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the child's care and supervision.
The investigation remains ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the child's family and loved ones.
A wrongful death lawyer can help eligible family members understand their legal options after a fatal hit-and-run in North Charleston, SC.
The process may involve reviewing the circumstances of the death, available evidence, insurance coverage, and losses experienced by the family.
One of the first steps may be gathering records related to the crash. Police reports, medical records, photographs, witness information, surveillance footage, and records involving the suspected vehicle may help provide a clearer picture of what happened.
A lawyer can also review information about the person who died and the losses connected to the death. Depending on the circumstances, medical expenses, funeral costs, and certain financial losses may be relevant when evaluating a potential wrongful death claim.
Hit-and-run cases can involve additional questions because the driver initially left the location. Evidence identifying the suspected vehicle, statements from witnesses, available video, and other investigative records may become important when reviewing the circumstances.
Insurance coverage may also require attention. A wrongful death lawyer can review available policies and insurance communications and explain what coverage could potentially apply to losses connected to the fatal crash.
Throughout the process, legal guidance may help family members organize records and understand potential next steps. An attorney can review the available information and explain what options may be available under the circumstances.
