Orangeburg, SC – Retired EMS Official Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Acme St
November 8, 2025

Orangeburg, SC (November 8, 2025) – A respected former emergency medical services official tragically lost his life on Wednesday afternoon in a motorcycle crash in Orangeburg County.

According to the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office, the victim has been identified as William “Bill” Williams, a 79-year-old resident of Eutawville. Williams was a retired Orangeburg County EMS training director, remembered by colleagues and community members for his lifelong commitment to saving lives and mentoring first responders.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the fatal collision happened around 2:50 p.m. on Acme Street near Tunita Street. Williams was traveling west on a 1997 Honda Gold Wing trike motorcycle when a 2024 Ford SUV attempted to make a left turn into a private driveway. The motorcycle struck the SUV during the turn, resulting in a violent impact that caused the trike to overturn.

Williams sustained blunt-force injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Coroner Sean Fogle. He was the only person on the motorcycle at the time. The driver and passengers of the SUV were not injured.

Authorities have not yet released information regarding whether Williams was wearing a helmet or if seatbelts were in use in the SUV. The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash to determine all contributing factors, including potential failure to yield or driver inattention.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of William “Bill” Williams during this difficult time.

Motorcycle Crashes in South Carolina

Motorcycle crashes in South Carolina often result in catastrophic or fatal injuries because riders lack the physical protection that vehicles provide. According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, hundreds of serious motorcycle collisions occur annually, many at intersections where other drivers fail to see or properly yield to motorcycles.

Left-turn accidents like the one that claimed Williams’s life are among the most common and deadly scenarios for riders. Even low-speed impacts can cause severe trauma, including head, chest, and spinal injuries. For older riders, the risk of fatal injuries increases significantly due to fragility and slower recovery times.

Families affected by fatal motorcycle accidents may be eligible to pursue wrongful death claims against negligent drivers. These claims can help cover funeral expenses, lost financial support, and the emotional toll of losing a loved one.

Seeking legal help is crucial in these cases. A skilled Orangeburg car accident attorney can investigate the scene, collect evidence, review police and accident reports, and identify all potential sources of compensation, including insurance coverage and liability claims.
