January 20, 2026

Lady’s Island, SC (January 20, 2026) – Two people were killed, and another was injured following a two-vehicle crash on Sunday, January 18, according to local officials.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Sea Island Parkway and Eustis Landing Road. Emergency units responded to the scene and found two vehicles involved in a serious crash.

A 54-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the accident.

A second 17-year-old who was riding in one of the vehicles survived the crash and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. The extent of that person’s injuries has not been disclosed.

On January 20, the local coroner’s office identified the victims who died as Amya Fields, 17, of Beaufort, and Louis Carbonneau, 54, of St. Helena Island.

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under review as investigators continue to examine evidence from the scene.

We extend our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this accident. We also wish those hurt a rapid recovery.

Legal Issues Following a Fatal Crash in South Carolina

After a fatal crash, families often look for straightforward information about legal and insurance matters. These cases usually begin with determining fault, since South Carolina operates under an at-fault system.

Insurance companies and investigators review crash reports, vehicle damage, witness statements, and roadway conditions to understand how the collision occurred. This review helps determine which insurance policies may apply and whether surviving family members could have options under wrongful death or injury laws.

Insurance coverage in fatal two-car accidents can involve multiple policies with different limits and conditions. Each driver’s insurance carrier may conduct its own evaluation of responsibility, which can lead to delays or disagreements.

In wrongful death matters, insurers often require documentation showing financial losses, such as medical bills, funeral expenses, and evidence of lost income or support.

Keeping organized records and copies of all related paperwork can help clarify how coverage applies and what claims may be considered.

Legal guidance can help explain how fatal accident cases are typically reviewed in South Carolina. An attorney may examine accident reports, insurance policies, and available evidence to outline how fault is assessed and how compensation may apply.

This can include explaining the difference between wrongful death and survival claims, as well as outlining deadlines and procedural requirements that may apply.

If you lost a loved one or were injured in a two-vehicle accident, you may want more information about how insurance and legal processes work.
