Bicyclist Dies Weeks After Crash on Hwy 101 in Gray Court, SC
July 17, 2026

Gray Court, SC (July 17, 2026) – A Gray Court man died weeks after a vehicle struck him while he was riding his bicycle in Laurens County.

The wreck happened on Tuesday, June 2, at approximately 10:44 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 101 North and Blackberry Road. A vehicle struck the bicyclist as he rode through the area.

The man was identified as Randy Leopard, 62, of Gray Court. Officials said Leopard was hospitalized at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital and died from his injuries on Thursday, July 16, more than a month after the crash occurred.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to look into what led up to the collision.

Our thoughts are with Leopard's family during this painful time.

What Can Families Do While Waiting for an Investigation to Conclude in Gray Court, SC?

Bicyclist Dies Weeks After Crash on Hwy 101Families can gather medical records, preserve photos or documentation from the initial collision, and stay in contact with the coroner's office while the investigation continues.

Waiting periods can be especially hard when a loved one survives an initial collision but passes away weeks later. Families usually deal with a long stretch of hospital records, treatment notes, and bills that accumulate before the death occurs, all of which can matter later when piecing together what happened.

In these cases, a wrongful death lawyer can help a family organize these records early, rather than waiting until a formal investigation concludes. Starting this process sooner can make it easier to connect the collision to the eventual outcome.

It is important to note that South Carolina allows recovery in a wrongful death claim as long as the deceased is not found more than 50 percent at fault, and such claims generally must be filed within three years of the date of death.

Waiting on an investigation doesn't mean a family has to wait to ask questions. At The Arndt Law Firm, we can explain what steps may make sense after a fatal accident in South Carolina.
