A 31-year-old bicyclist died after being struck by an SUV on Trask Parkway near Stroban Road in Beaufort County on July 17, according to authorities.

The collision occurred shortly before 10 a.m. when a bicyclist and a 2011 Toyota SUV were traveling north in the same area. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the SUV struck the bicyclist, who died at the scene from blunt force injuries.

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Christopher James, 31, of Wrens, Georgia. The driver of the SUV was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
