Calhoun County, SC (July 3, 2026) – A driver died on Thursday evening, July 2, after a head-on collision at the intersection of Old State Road and Old Sandy Run Road.
The wreck happened around 5:10 p.m. when a 2019 Kia traveling north on Old Sandy Run Road crossed left of center and struck a 2009 Hyundai heading south, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Hyundai was taken to a hospital, where she later died. The driver of the Kia was not hurt.
No further details about the crash have been released. The investigation remains active.
Our condolences go out to the family of the woman who lost her life.

In fatal crashes, families are usually left facing funeral costs, lost income, and the emotional toll of losing a loved one unexpectedly. South Carolina law recognizes both a wrongful death action and a separate survival action, which allows a deceased person's medical bills and pain and suffering before death to be pursued as part of the estate's claim.
Sometimes, determining whether a driver crossed the center line due to distraction, fatigue, or another factor relies on the trooper's report, vehicle data, and physical evidence at the intersection. A wrongful death lawyer can help families obtain and interpret that evidence while the investigation is still active, since details can become harder to access over time. South Carolina generally allows three years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim.
