Lexington County, SC (July 9, 2026) – A Kia driver died on Wednesday morning, July 8, after a tractor-trailer crash and hit-and-run on South Carolina Highway 6 near WE Jeffcoat Road. The wreck happened around 6:50 a.m. between Pelion and Swansea.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2002 International tractor-trailer traveled east on South Carolina Highway 6 when a 2023 Kia Rio heading north on WE Jeffcoat Road hit its trailer.

The tractor-trailer then ran off the right side of the road and overturned. A dark-colored sedan traveling west on South Carolina Highway 6 hit the Kia driver and left the area.

The Kia driver lost their life at the scene. Photos from the scene showed the tractor-trailer on its side, with two axles off the road.

Troopers continue to review the fatal collision.

We send our condolences to the driver’s family and loved ones.

Can Families Recover Compensation After a Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Lexington County, SC?

Driver Killed in Hit-and-Run on S.C. 6Yes, families may recover compensation after a fatal hit-and-run crash, depending on the evidence and available insurance coverage. Compensation may cover funeral costs, lost income, medical bills, and other losses. An attorney can explain to the victim's family which options may apply.

After a fatal crash, a hit-and-run can make recovery harder because the responsible driver may remain unknown. Your family may face insurance calls, unexpected expenses, and unanswered questions. Keeping reports, receipts, photographs, and policy documents organized can support a future claim.

Across Lexington County, drivers use rural roads such as South Carolina Highway 6 and major routes including U.S. Highway 178 and Interstate 20. Passenger vehicles and commercial trucks regularly share these roads. Heavy traffic can increase the risk of serious crashes.

As more information becomes available, compensation may still be possible even when authorities cannot identify the fleeing driver. Uninsured motorist coverage may apply, depending on the policy terms and crash facts. Other parties could also share liability under certain circumstances.

While the investigation continues, a South Carolina wrongful death lawyer can review police records, insurance policies, witness statements, and available evidence. Legal guidance can explain filing deadlines and insurance communications. That support may provide clarity while investigators continue searching for the driver.
