Fatal Crash Closes I-26 E in Spartanburg Co., SC

Spartanburg County, SC (August 21, 2026) – A fatal wreck shut down all eastbound lanes of Interstate 26 near mile marker 31 in Spartanburg County early Friday morning, August 21.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed the collision and reported that one person was killed as a result of it. As of 7 a.m., all eastbound lanes remained blocked, with traffic being directed to a detour at exit 28.

The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office is responding. The investigation into the rash remains ongoing.
