Colleton County, SC (July 11, 2026) – One driver was killed, and others were hospitalized following a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Jefferies Highway and Academy Road in Colleton County on Friday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. Initial findings indicate that two vehicles were stopped when a third vehicle struck one of them from behind, causing a chain-reaction collision involving all three vehicles.

The driver of the striking vehicle died at the scene, while the occupants of the other vehicles were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

The collision remains under investigation.

Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the person who lost their life. We hope all those injured make a complete recovery.

How Can Multiple Vehicles Affect an Insurance Claim After a Car Accident in South Carolina?

Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash at Jefferies Hwy in Colleton Co., SC

After a multi-vehicle accident in South Carolina, insurance claims are more complex because investigators and insurance companies must determine how each vehicle contributed to the collision.

When several vehicles are involved, multiple insurance policies and competing accounts of the crash may also need to be reviewed.

As the investigation progresses, authorities may examine the official crash report, vehicle damage, photographs from the scene, witness statements, roadway conditions, and any available surveillance or dash camera footage. Investigators may also evaluate debris patterns, impact points, and other physical evidence to determine the sequence of events.

This information helps establish how the chain-reaction collision unfolded and whether more than one party may share responsibility.

Medical documentation is another important part of the claims process for those injured in a multi-vehicle collision. Emergency treatment records, hospital evaluations, diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation records, and follow-up care can help document the nature of the injuries and the recovery process.

Keeping organized records of medical expenses, lost income, and other accident-related losses may also help support a claim as insurance companies evaluate the available evidence.

When multiple vehicles are involved, navigating the claims process can become more complicated. Legal guidance can help review the available evidence, organize important records, and address communications with insurance carriers while explaining how liability findings and insurance coverage may influence a potential claim.
