Dillon County, SC (August 3, 2026) – A pedestrian died early Monday morning, August 3, after being struck by a Jeep on Interstate 95 near mile marker 180.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the wreck happened around 12:40 a.m. A 2025 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was traveling south when it struck a person in the roadway.
The driver and passenger of the Jeep were not hurt. No further details about the pedestrian have been released.
The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal collision.
We extend our condolences to the family of the person who died.

Determining liability in these cases typically depends on nighttime visibility conditions, vehicle speed, and any available dash camera or highway surveillance footage.
A wrongful death lawyer can help a family request and preserve this kind of evidence quickly, since interstate crash data and footage are not always retained for long after the fact.
South Carolina's wrongful death statute generally allows a claim to be filed within three years of the date of death, and any recovery can include compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and loss of companionship. It can help to have someone review the full circumstances and guide families to understand what happened.
