Oconee County, SC (September 18, 2026) – A 69-year-old died on Thursday, September 17, after a dump truck hit the Chevy Blazer he was driving at Highway 11 and Hefner Road. It happened around 9 a.m.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the man was trying to cross Highway 11 when the southbound dump truck struck the driver's side of his Blazer. The truck then left the road and overturned. He lost his life at the roadside from blunt force trauma.
The investigation remains open and ongoing.
Our condolences go out to the mans' family and friends.

South Carolina law gives families two separate claims after a fatal injury, and each serves a different purpose.
A wrongful death action is generally brought by the personal representative of the estate on behalf of certain close family members, such as a spouse, children, or parents. Damages may include financial losses like lost income and support, along with grief, mental shock, and the loss of companionship.
The second claim, a survival action, belongs to the estate itself. It generally covers harm the person experienced before death, such as medical bills and any conscious pain and suffering. The two claims address different losses, so they are typically pursued together, though how they fit depends on the facts of each case and the evidence available.
Timing shapes both. South Carolina generally allows three years to file a wrongful death or survival claim, and the estate needs someone formally appointed as personal representative before it can move forward.
To face this, many families turn to a wrongful death lawyer to help them sort out who is eligible to serve as personal representative, identify every potentially responsible party and insurance policy, and keep the filing deadline in view.
