Laurens, SC (June 26, 2026) – A 40-year-old man died on Wednesday night, June 24, after an electrocution accident at a Walmart store in Laurens.

The man, identified as Cesar Siso Barcelo of Easley, was hurt in the incident around 10:20 p.m. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Coroner's officials were notified shortly after 11:22 p.m. that Barcelo had died at the hospital. An autopsy later confirmed the cause of death as electrocution.

The cause of the electrocution remains under review by the Laurens County Coroner's Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

We extend our sincere condolences to Barcelo's family during this difficult time.

Who Can Be Held Responsible for a Fatal Electrocution at a Store in Laurens, SC?

Man Dies in Electrocution at WalmartWhen someone dies from electrocution on a commercial property, South Carolina premises liability law may hold the property owner, store operator, or maintenance contractor responsible if a hazardous electrical condition went unaddressed.

Electrocution injuries can range from severe burns and cardiac arrest to long-term nerve damage and, in the most serious cases, death, depending on voltage and duration of contact. When OSHA is also investigating, any citations issued against the store or a contracted electrical service provider could become important evidence in a future civil claim, separate from the criminal or regulatory side of the case.

South Carolina's wrongful death statute allows a personal representative of the estate, generally on behalf of a spouse, children, or parents, to bring a claim within three years of the date of death. A wrongful death lawyer can help determine whether a related survival action should also be filed by the estate to recover for the deceased's pain, suffering, and medical expenses between injury and death. These two claims often proceed together rather than as a single combined case.

Our team at the Arndt Law Firm has experience reviewing workplace and premises liability cases that involve electrical hazards, and we can help families across South Carolina understand what evidence, like maintenance records or OSHA findings, may support a claim.
