Rock Hill, SC (July 5, 2026) – A moped rider died after a collision involving a passenger vehicle on Saturday evening, July 4, on Finley Road in Rock Hill. Emergency units responded to the roadway, and the rider was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, where he later died.

The crash occurred around 6:45 p.m. when a Ford Fusion attempted to make a left turn and entered the path of the moped, according to investigators. The rider was identified as 43-year-old Germal Kennedy of Rock Hill.

Police said the driver of the Ford Fusion, identified as 35-year-old Jeremy Durham of Lancaster, was driving with a suspended license. He was arrested and charged with failure to yield the right of way while turning left and driving under suspension.

The investigation remains ongoing as investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision.

We extend our sincere condolences to Mr. Kennedy's family and loved ones during this difficult time.

What Does a Failure to Yield Accident Investigation Involve in Rock Hill, SC?

Moped Rider Killed in CollisionWhen a driver is accused of failing to yield in Rock Hill, SC, determining liability typically requires a careful review of the available evidence rather than quick assumptions.

To understand what happened, investigators and insurance companies often start by collecting and comparing key pieces of evidence. This may include witness statements, photographs of the scene, vehicle damage patterns, roadway markings, and any available traffic or surveillance video. Each of these details can help clarify how the vehicles approached the intersection or roadway.

In Rock Hill and across York County, many failure-to-yield crashes involve turning movements, especially left turns, which require a close analysis of timing, right-of-way, and vehicle positioning. Because these factors can be highly disputed, liability is often not finalized until a full reconstruction of the collision is completed.

When a crash results in a fatality, the situation becomes even more complex for surviving family members. Questions may arise regarding insurance coverage, eligibility for wrongful death benefits, and what legal steps may be available while the investigation is still ongoing.

A lawyer can assist by reviewing police reports and other available records, explaining how insurance policies may apply, and identifying what evidence will be important as more details become known. Since every case turns on its specific facts, outcomes depend heavily on the strength and clarity of the evidence collected.
