Greenville, SC (August 3, 2026) – A motorcyclist was injured after a crash with a vehicle on Interstate 85 southbound near Exit 42. Authorities said the crash happened on Monday afternoon, August 3, at 5 p.m.

The wreck prompted a closure of the left lane in the area. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and emergency units responded to treat those hurt.

Investigators continue to look into what caused the wreck.

We hope the injured motorcyclist recovers fully.

What Makes Motorcycle Crashes on I-85 in Greenville, SC, Especially Dangerous?

Motorcyclist Injured in Crash on I-85Motorcycle crashes on high-speed corridors like I-85 tend to carry a greater risk of serious injury than crashes involving two passenger vehicles, largely because a rider has little protection against the force of impact.

The stretch of I-85 near Exit 42 connects to other heavily traveled Greenville routes, areas where merging traffic and lane changes can catch a motorcyclist off guard, particularly during highway travel.

Riders involved in a highway collision usually face injuries such as road rash, fractures, and head or spinal trauma, even when wearing proper safety gear. These injuries can require extended hospital stays and months of rehabilitation, especially when a vehicle strikes a motorcycle at highway speed.

South Carolina law does not presume a motorcyclist is at fault simply because a crash involved a bike, and a motorcycle accident lawyer can help establish how the crash actually occurred by reviewing the police report, any available dashcam footage, and witness statements gathered. This matters because insurance companies sometimes assume greater fault on the part of a motorcyclist without fully examining the facts.

Highway motorcycle crashes can leave riders with serious questions about fault and recovery. Our team at The Arndt Law Firm works with injured motorcyclists throughout South Carolina. We can review the details of what happened and explain how the state's comparative negligence rule may apply to your case.
