North Charleston, SC (September 14, 2026) – Several vehicles were involved in a collision on Monday morning, September 14, on Interstate 26 eastbound near Ashley Phosphate Road.
The wreck happened around 6:45 a.m. and quickly created miles of backed-up traffic. Emergency units were sent to help those involved and manage traffic in the area.
The left lane stayed closed while emergency units worked to clear the vehicles from the roadway. By 6:58 a.m., all lanes had reopened to traffic. The full extent of injuries from the collision has not been released.
Authorities continue to look into what led to the pileup.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected as they recover.

Fault in a multi-vehicle crash is typically established by looking at each driver's actions, the sequence of impacts, and any traffic law violations that may have contributed.
South Carolina follows a modified comparative negligence rule, in which an injured person can seek compensation as long as they are not found more than 50 percent responsible for what happened. When more than two vehicles are involved, this analysis can become far more complicated than a standard two-car crash.
Pileups usually happen in a matter of seconds, so drivers, passengers, and witnesses may all recall the sequence of events differently. Traffic camera footage, vehicle data recorders, and physical evidence like skid marks can all play a part in reconstructing how the chain of collisions unfolded.
South Carolina law also allows for shared fault among several drivers, which means more than one person could bear a percentage of responsibility for a single crash. This can affect how insurance companies calculate and pay out claims, especially when multiple policies are involved.
A car accident lawyer can help sort through police reports, camera footage, and insurance correspondence to get a clearer picture of how fault should be divided.
