Myrtle Beach, SC — Two-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 544

Myrtle Beach, SC — Two-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 544
March 3, 2026

Myrtle Beach, SC (March 3, 2026) — Commuters faced significant delays on Monday, March 2, following a high-impact, two-vehicle collision on SC-544 Highway. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:52 a.m.

Authorities arrived to find both vehicles with major damage, obstructing several travel lanes. Crews immediately began triaging the occupants and arranged for Basic Life Support (BLS) transport for those injured in the wreck.

While the total number of patients has not been confirmed, at least one person was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

The local police department is investigating the cause of the crash.

We hope everyone affected by this accident makes a full and swift recovery.

Your Legal Rights After a South Carolina Car Accident

South Carolina is an "at-fault" tort state, granting victims the right to seek full compensation from the driver responsible for a collision without the automatic limits found in no-fault states.

However, recovery is governed by the 51% Bar Rule, meaning you can only collect damages if your share of the fault is 50% or less. If you are found 51% responsible, you lose the right to any compensation.

Victims have the right to pursue "make-whole" damages, which include economic losses like medical bills and lost wages, as well as non-economic damages for pain, suffering, and emotional trauma.

Because state minimum insurance often falls short in serious accidents, South Carolina law allows for the "stacking" of Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist coverage. If you insure multiple vehicles under one policy, you may be able to combine those limits to increase the total funds available for your recovery.

In the event of a fatality, the South Carolina Wrongful Death Act prescribes that recovery for the family’s grief and loss is protected from the deceased’s creditors. These funds go directly to the heirs rather than being seized by hospitals or debt collectors through the probate estate.

Furthermore, South Carolina is a "Diminished Value" state, allowing you to be compensated for the loss in your vehicle’s resale value even after repairs are completed. You have three years from the date of the crash to file these claims, provided you were not the at-fault driver.

A car accident lawyer can help explain what options may be available after a crash. Legal guidance may include reviewing police or crash reports, organizing medical records, and helping with insurance communication. This support can clarify how medical bills, vehicle damage, lost income, and other expenses may be addressed.

If you are unsure about what steps to take after a car crash, guidance is available. Speaking with our legal team at The Arndt Law Firm, who are familiar with vehicle accidents in South Carolina, can help clarify next steps, paperwork, and common concerns that arise after a collision.
