Florence County, SC (September 7, 2026) – Nine people were injured on Monday afternoon, September 7, in a two-car wreck on I-95 South near the 160-mile marker.
The Florence County Fire Rescue responded around 2:10 p.m. One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while the remaining eight declined transportation at the location.
Two lanes on I-20 were expected to remain blocked as the South Carolina Highway Patrol investigates. The cause of the collision has not yet been determined.
We hope everyone involved recovers quickly.

The maximum a South Carolina driver's minimum insurance policy pays out for injuries in a single accident is $50,000, no matter how many people were hurt.
When a crash involves a car full of passengers or two vehicles carrying several people each, that per-accident cap under the state's minimum requirement has to stretch across every injured claimant, not just one.
The math gets uncomfortable quickly. A driver who carries only the state minimum who's found at fault for injuring five or six people effectively caps everyone's combined recovery at $50,000, regardless of how serious any individual injury turns out to be.
Insurance adjusters know this, and when multiple people file claims against the same policy, they usually move fast to settle with early claimants at low amounts before the more seriously injured passengers have a chance to fully understand their damages.
This is precisely the scenario South Carolina's mandatory Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist coverage exists to address. Under South Carolina law, every driver is required to carry UM/UIM coverage that cannot be waived, and when a policy's liability limits get exhausted or prove inadequate for multiple claimants, an injured passenger's own UIM coverage can typically make up the difference.
At The Arndt Law Firm, we have represented passengers competing for a fair share of limited coverage after crashes involving several injured people at once. Knowing where a claim stands relative to other claimants matters as much as the injury itself in cases like this.
