One Dead in Head-On Wreck on Cane Savannah Rd in Sumter Co., SC

Sumter County, SC (July 7, 2026) – A head-on crash killed one driver and left another hurt on Monday afternoon, July 6, in Sumter County. The collision happened around 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cane Savannah Road and St. Pauls Church Road.

As reported by the Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2019 Hyundai SUV was traveling north on Cane Savannah Road. At the same time, a 2017 Ford SUV was heading south when it crossed to the left of the centerline and struck the Hyundai head-on.

The Hyundai driver died at the scene. The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the driver’s name.

Emergency units took the Ford driver to an area hospital with injuries. Officials have not shared further details about that driver’s condition. No other injuries were reported.

Investigators have not confirmed why the Ford crossed into oncoming traffic. The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
