Andrews, SC (July 24, 2026) – One person died after a hit-and-run collision on US Highway 521 near Dusty Circle in the Andrews area.
The highway was closed between Tad Road and Wheeler Road for several hours while troopers investigated. It has since reopened to traffic.
The driver believed to be involved has not been identified. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The investigation into the fatal hit-and-run remains open as troopers work to locate the driver.
Our condolences go out to the family of the person who died.

Once uninsured motorist coverage comes into play, the claims process shifts from pursuing an at-fault driver directly to negotiating with the family's own insurance carrier, which can create its own complications.
Insurers sometimes dispute how a crash occurred when there's no identified driver to assign fault to, so witness statements, traffic camera footage, and the responding trooper's report all carry added weight. A wrongful death lawyer can help gather and organize this evidence early, before it becomes harder to obtain.
South Carolina's wrongful death statute allows a personal representative of the deceased's estate to file a claim, generally within three years of the date of death. If the driver is later identified, that timeline and the available legal options may expand to include a direct claim against them.
Losing a family member in circumstances like these raises questions that can feel overwhelming to sort through alone. Our team at The Arndt Law Firm has experience helping families understand uninsured motorist claims and wrongful death options in South Carolina.
