Orangeburg County, SC (September 30, 2026) – A driver died on Wednesday morning, September 30, after a car and tractor-trailer collided at US-301 and Way Road in Orangeburg County.
The driver of a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling north on US-301 when it collided with a 2024 Volvo tractor-trailer that was turning south onto the highway from Way Road.
The Camaro driver was the only person inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene after being injured in the collision. The tractor-trailer driver was also alone and was not injured.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the person who lost their life.
Fault after a fatal truck crash may depend on the actions of the drivers and the circumstances leading to the collision.
Investigators may review roadway evidence, vehicle positions, traffic controls, witness accounts, and other records to determine how the crash occurred.
Physical evidence can help establish the sequence of events. Photographs, lane markings, vehicle damage, debris, and available video may provide information about vehicle movements and points of contact.
Driver behavior may also be considered. Speed, lane position, following distance, braking, turns, and attention to surrounding traffic can provide information about what happened before the vehicles collided.
Witness accounts may offer another perspective. People who observed the vehicles before or during the crash may have details that help clarify circumstances not captured by physical evidence or available recordings.
When a fatality occurs, families may also need to preserve records related to the death. Medical expenses, funeral costs, lost income, and other financial losses may become relevant to a potential wrongful death claim.
Insurance coverage can also be reviewed as part of the process. Policy information and communications with insurers may help identify what coverage could potentially apply and what documentation may be needed.
