Dillon County, SC (October 3, 2026) – A person was killed Friday night, October 2, after being struck by a Chevrolet Malibu on Highway 301 South near East Countryside Road in Dillon County.
The crash happened around 10:45 p.m. as the vehicle traveled south on Highway 301. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was walking north in the southbound lane when the vehicle struck him.
The driver and two passengers in the Malibu were not injured.
The pedestrian died in the crash, according to the Dillon County Coroner’s Office.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the person who lost their life.
Families may benefit from preserving information connected to a fatal pedestrian crash as soon as possible.
Crash reports, photographs, witness accounts, medical records, and insurance documents may all become relevant when reviewing the circumstances and resulting losses.
Physical evidence can help explain what happened before the collision. Photographs of the roadway, vehicle damage, lighting, traffic signs, and lane markings can preserve details that may change over time.
Witness information can add another perspective. Names and contact details for people who saw the crash or the events immediately beforehand may help clarify what occurred and supplement other evidence.
Video recordings may provide additional context when available. Dashcam footage, nearby business surveillance, traffic cameras, and other recordings may capture vehicle movements or roadway conditions before the pedestrian was struck.
Along with evidence about the crash, families should keep records of expenses connected to the death. Funeral costs, medical bills incurred before death, lost income, and other financial documents may help establish the losses associated with the person's death.
Insurance records can then provide another important part of the documentation. Letters, claim forms, emails, and other communications with insurers can help create a record of the claims process and clarify what coverage may be available.
With these records preserved, a wrongful death lawyer can review the available information and explain whether the evidence may support a potential claim. Legal guidance may also help families identify additional documents to preserve and address insurance questions.
