Blythewood, SC (November 5, 2025) – A tragic car accident claimed one life and left another person injured on Saturday, November 1, in Blythewood, located in Richland County. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. when two vehicles collided at the intersection of Farrow Road and Pine Wedge Drive, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Authorities reported that a 2024 Ford pickup truck was traveling north on Farrow Rd when it struck the driver’s side of a 2022 Toyota Highlander heading west on Pine Wedge Dr. The impact caused severe damage to the Toyota and left the driver fatally injured at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending family notification.

Emergency crews, including Richland County EMS and local firefighters, quickly responded to the crash site to assist those involved. Paramedics transported a passenger from the Toyota Highlander to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the Ford pickup was the sole occupant of that vehicle and was reportedly uninjured.

Law enforcement officers closed parts of Farrow Rd for several hours while they investigated and cleared the scene. Debris was scattered across the roadway, and tow trucks were brought in to remove the heavily damaged vehicles. The MAIT continues to investigate the crash to determine its cause.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that speed or failure to yield may have contributed to the accident. Nearby residents reported hearing a loud impact just before emergency sirens filled the area.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the victim who lost their life in this tragic crash. We also wish the injured passenger a full and speedy recovery.

Fatal Car Accidents in South Carolina

ree

Car accidents remain a major public safety concern in South Carolina, where thousands of serious crashes occur each year. According to data from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, more than 1,100 people die annually in motor vehicle collisions across the state, with many of these fatalities involving intersection-related impacts.

Busy corridors such as Farrow Rd and Pine Wedge Dr often present elevated risks for severe crashes due to traffic congestion, limited visibility, and speeding. Intersections are particularly dangerous because they involve multiple conflict points where vehicles travel in different directions, increasing the likelihood of side impact or T-bone collisions, one of the deadliest crash types for occupants.

Common causes of fatal accidents in South Carolina include:

  • Distracted driving, such as texting or phone use.

  • Speeding or reckless driving in residential areas.

  • Failure to yield or running red lights.

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
