Small Plane Crashes Near Springdale Rd in Lancaster, SC

Lancaster, SC (July 3, 2026) – Two pilots were seriously hurt early Thursday morning, July 2, when their small plane crashed in a wooded area near Brooklyn Avenue and Springdale Road.

The Beechcraft 55 Baron went down around 1 a.m. while they attempted an emergency landing at Lancaster County Airport due to reported engine trouble. Air traffic control recordings indicate the aircraft was headed to the airport when it crashed short of the runway.

The plane, which had departed from Poplarville, Mississippi, the evening before, was on a nighttime training flight bound for Stanly County, North Carolina. It went through trees before coming to rest on a hillside and catching fire.

Both men aboard were found outside the wreckage and were airlifted to a hospital with serious burns. Federal investigators with the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are now examining what caused the engine failure.
