Teen Driver Cited After Crash Closes Isle of Palms Connector in Mount Pleasant, SC

Teen Driver Cited After Crash Closes Isle of Palms Connector in Mount Pleasant, SC
July 3, 2026

Mount Pleasant, SC (July 3, 2026) – A 16-year-old driver was cited for reckless driving after a three-vehicle collision shut down the Isle of Palms Connector on Friday morning, July 3.

The Mount Pleasant Police said the call came in around 8:19 a.m. After the teen's Ford F-150 crossed the double yellow lines and struck an oncoming car, which caused it to roll onto its side and catch fire. A third vehicle swerved into a nearby wall to avoid the crash.

The driver of that third car used tow straps to pull the burning vehicle away from the flames while its occupant was still trapped inside, according to officials. Fire crews later had to extricate that driver from the wreckage.

Three people were taken from the roadway by EMS. The teen driver was cited at the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate this accident.

We wish those injured a full and speedy recovery.

Reckless Driving Citations and Civil Liability After a Crash in Mount Pleasant, SC

Teen Driver Cited After Crash Closes Isle of Palms ConnectorA reckless driving citation from police doesn't automatically decide who pays for injuries in a civil claim, but it can serve as strong evidence of negligence when building one. People pulled from a burning or overturned vehicle can face burns, smoke inhalation, or spinal injuries that require extraction by emergency crews, on top of the trauma of the crash itself. Extended hospital stays and follow-up surgery aren't unusual after this kind of extrication.

When a minor drives, questions of parental liability may also come into play under South Carolina's family purpose doctrine, which can hold a vehicle owner responsible for damage caused by a family member driving with permission. A car accident attorney can help identify every available source of recovery, while South Carolina's three-year statute of limitations for personal injury claims is still running.

Being involved in a crash can leave people overwhelmed by medical bills and unanswered questions. Our team at the Arndt Law Firm can help explain how a reckless driving citation might factor into a claim for anyone hurt in a collision.

To understand who may be responsible can take untangling several parties, and we are prepared to walk you through that process. Reach out to The Arndt Law Firm at (843) 287-9802 to discuss what happened with our team.
