Bluffton, SC (June 26, 2026) – A pickup truck overturned on Thursday afternoon, June 25, after it collided with another truck on U.S. Highway 278 near Lost Oaks Drive.
The wreck happened around 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of US-278, also known as Fording Island Road, and Lost Oaks Drive, in front of a car dealership. Emergency units closed both eastbound lanes while they worked to clear the scene.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said one person had to be extricated from a vehicle following the crash. It is not known whether that person or anyone else was hurt.
Traffic backed up on both sides of the highway as crews worked to clear the area, with eastbound drivers diverted to the opposite side of the road. Both lanes had reopened by 4:10 p.m., and one of the trucks had been set back upright.
No further details about the collision were available at the time.
The cause of the crash remains under review.
We hope everyone involved makes a full recovery.

People involved in crashes that require extrication usually face injuries ranging from fractures and lacerations to head trauma, depending on the severity of the rollover. Even when injuries are not immediately apparent, some symptoms, such as soft tissue damage or internal bleeding, may not surface until hours or days later, making early medical evaluation important.
After a two-vehicle wreck, a car accident attorney can help gather and preserve evidence such as traffic camera footage, witness accounts, and vehicle data before it becomes unavailable. A lawyer can also communicate with insurance companies on a person's behalf while they focus on recovery. Legal guidance can help clarify what options are available to someone hurt in a crash like this.
