Easley, SC (October 1, 2026) – A woman was killed and a man was injured in a house fire on Le Ann Drive in Easley on Wednesday, September 30.
The Pickens County Coroner’s Office was called to the home at about 4:30 a.m. Firefighters with the Easley Fire Department arrived to find the home heavily involved in flames and began fighting the fire and searching the residence.
Crews brought the fire under control in about 40 minutes. The woman died at the home, while the man was taken to a hospital with injuries. A child escaped through a back window.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
We extend our condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones. We also wish the injured man a steady recovery.

When negligence causes a fire, responsibility may fall on a landlord, property owner, contractor, product manufacturer, or another party whose actions contributed to what happened.
Once responsibility is established, South Carolina requires the deceased person’s executor or administrator to bring the wrongful death claim. The claim is filed for the benefit of eligible family members.
From there, any recovery is generally divided according to South Carolina’s inheritance rules. The amount each family member receives depends on which qualifying relatives survive the person who died.
Because wrongful death and survival claims cover different losses, the estate may also bring a separate survival claim. This may include medical expenses and compensation for conscious pain and suffering the person experienced before death.
In South Carolina, families generally have three years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Missing that deadline may prevent them from seeking compensation through the courts.
If responsibility for a fatal fire is disputed, a South Carolina wrongful death lawyer can review fire reports, property records, and other available evidence to determine who may be legally responsible. An attorney can also explain how wrongful death and survival claims may apply to the family’s situation.
