Longs, SC (August 9, 2026) – Three people were hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash on Old Highway 31 near the Danny Knight Boating Facility in Longs on Sunday, August 9. The collision was reported at about 2:21 a.m.
As reported by the Horry County Fire Rescue, the vehicle struck a guardrail. One person became trapped inside, and emergency crews used extrication equipment to free the person.
Emergency units transported three critically injured people to a hospital for medical care.
All lanes of Old Highway 31 were blocked while crews worked. Drivers were asked to avoid the roadway because of possible delays.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate what caused the wreck, with assistance from the Horry County Police Department.
We hope everyone injured receives the care and support needed for a full recovery.

In many cases, a passenger may seek damages for medical expenses, lost wages, pain, and other accident-related losses. Liability insurance may provide a source of recovery. The amount available can depend on the policy limits and proven damages.
Around Longs, Old Highway 31 runs through parts of Horry County where serious crashes can leave passengers facing medical treatment and time away from normal activities. A passenger's claim may depend on why the driver lost control of the vehicle.
If another responsible driver lacks adequate coverage, uninsured or underinsured motorist protection may become important. South Carolina requires uninsured motorist coverage. Insurers must offer underinsured motorist coverage, although drivers are not required to purchase it.
Under South Carolina law, most personal injury actions must generally be filed within three years. Waiting beyond the applicable deadline may prevent an injured passenger from pursuing the case in court. Certain circumstances can affect how a deadline applies.
For more complex claims, a car accident lawyer can review fault, insurance coverage, and available damages. An attorney may also help identify additional sources of coverage. This can be especially important when injuries are serious or insurance limits are disputed.
