Longs, SC — One Hospitalized After Three-Vehicle Collision Near Underwood Ln

Longs, SC — One Hospitalized After Three-Vehicle Collision Near Underwood Ln
March 4, 2026

Longs, SC (March 4, 2026) — Emergency responders from Horry County Fire Rescue performed a complex extrication on Wednesday, March 4, after a three-vehicle collision involving an overturned commercial truck. The accident occurred near the intersection of West Highway 9 and Underwood Lane in the Longs community.

According to preliminary reports, a large tractor-trailer overturned during the collision, trapping at least one person inside a vehicle. Horry County crews deployed specialized extrication tools to free the confined individual, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Two other individuals involved in the crash were evaluated at the scene but signed medical waivers, declining further transport.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently leading the investigation.

Our thoughts remain with those affected as they recover from their injuries.

Your Legal Rights After a Commercial Truck Accident in South Carolina

South Carolina is an at-fault tort state, granting victims the right to seek full compensation from the driver or trucking company responsible for a collision. However, recovery is governed by the 51% Bar Rule, a form of modified comparative negligence. This means you can only collect damages if your share of the fault is 50% or less. If you are found 51% responsible, you lose the right to any compensation entirely.

Victims have the right to pursue "make-whole" damages, which include economic losses like medical bills and lost wages, as well as non-economic damages for pain, suffering, and emotional trauma. In accidents involving a tractor-trailer, victims also have the right to investigate the trucking company’s compliance with federal safety regulations. This includes reviewing the driver’s "Hours of Service" logs and the vehicle’s maintenance records, which can often prove that corporate negligence, not just driver error, contributed to the crash.

Because commercial insurance policies are significantly larger than standard auto policies, investigations are often more thorough and aggressive. Victims have the right to preserve evidence from the truck’s "black box" (Electronic Control Module), which records speed, braking, and steering data leading up to the impact. Accessing this data is often the only way to counter a trucking company’s defense that the accident was unavoidable.
